Best Holiday Glazed Ham featuring Jerry's Faves "The Classic"
Prep Time:
15 minutes (plus time to marvel at your majestic ham)
Cook Time & Oven Temp:
About 10-15 minutes per pound
Start at 325°F (163°C)
Increase to 425°F for last 20-30 minutes
What You’ll Need:
1 bone-in ham (6–10 lbs, fully cooked, because we’re not trying to wrestle with raw pig today)
Jerry’s Faves “The Classic” seasoning (a.k.a. magic flavour dust)
2 tbsp Dijon mustard (fancy enough to impress your in-laws)
Optional: Pineapple rings, cloves, or cherries if you’re feeling tropical or retro
Roasting pan with a rack or a casserole dish (we don't judge)
Foil (a.k.a. ham blanket)
Instructions:
1. Let the Ham Chill (but not literally)
Take the ham out of the fridge about 1 hour before cooking. Let it come to room temp. Hams hate cold ovens. You want even cooking, not ham shock.
2. Score that Meat!
With a sharp knife, score the fat cap in a criss-cross diamond pattern like you’re giving it a classy quilted jacket. This helps the seasoning penetrate and gives you those beautiful caramelized edges. Style AND function.
3. Rub It Like You Mean It
Use the mustard to rub this all over the ham like you’re giving it a deep tissue massage. Once it's covered in mustard it's time for the flavour bomb! Add The Classic until you're satisfied and your ham is fully covered.
Get in those grooves! Don’t be shy—this is how flavor magic happens.
4. To Cover or Not to Cover?
Place the ham cut-side down on the rack in your roasting pan. Tent it loosely with foil (don't smother it—this is ham, not a hostage). This keeps it moist while it bakes.
5. Into the Oven It Goes
Bake at 325°F, about 15 minutes per pound. So for an 8-lb ham, that’s about 2 hours.
At the 90-minute mark, remove the foil and baste with pan juices. Up your oven temp to 425°F and continue baking uncovered for the last 30 minutes to get that golden, caramelized crust. Or as we like to call it, ham candy!
6. Check the Temp
You're aiming for internal temp of 140°F. Use a meat thermometer—don’t guess. Ham deserves precision.
7. Let It Rest
Remove from oven and let rest 15–20 minutes before slicing. You just worked hard on this. Give it a break before carving.
(And maybe grab a beer—you’ve earned it.)
Serving Suggestion:
Slice thin, serve with your favorite sides (ours include scalloped potatoes and maple glazed carrots), and brace yourself for the compliments.
You can even whisper “It’s Jerry’s secret” as people swoon.
Bonus Pro Tips:
Wanna go retro? Stud each diamond with a clove before baking or use toothpicks to skewer some pineapple slices to the beast.
Leftovers? Ham sandwiches. Ham soup. Ham for president.
